Credits/Backstory:

I co-wrote this song with Matt Salerno in 1976. It was the title tune for an independent movie about trucks, truckers and truckstops. The film opened in California; I don’t know where it went after that.
I play bass and sing the low part, Matt plays drums and harmonica, and sings the high part, and our pal Uncle Patsy Velardi plays acoustic 6-string and Fender Telecaster guitars. We recorded this (and three other tunes) on four tracks, in four hours, at Trod Nossel studios, 100 bucks, out the door.
For 20 years or so my “master” copy of this tune was a dub on a pre-recorded REO Speedwagon tape. This acounts for some of the audio hi-jinx.
Have fun!

Lyrics:

(Spoken Intro)
Well, it’s the same crowd every time
same old faces
I walk in and drop in my last dime
yu-up
them kids in the corner
heh-heh-heh
and the local drunk by the door
every night
hey miss, would you break up this here single
why’s that?
‘cause I wanna make that old juke box jingle
fine idea
and, uh, don’t forget it, mine are over easy now, ya hear?
you know, that’s the way I like mine too. . .

Won’t you please make it easy, turn it over just to please me
I’ve been tryin’ to lay low
I need an arm to surround me, I wanna feel like someone found me
I’ll slide over easy now.

Oh, lonely days, oh lonely nights
can’t see the sunlight through the rain
oh lonely days, oh lonely nights
diner lights and coffee cloud my brain.

Did you know that I love you?
let’s have another cup or two
I think I’d like a piece of homemade pie
you’re my eggs and I’m your ham
let’s go find ourselves a pan
and we’ll slide over easy now.

Won’t you please make it easy, turn it over just to please me
I’ve been tryin’ to lay low
I need an arm to surround me, I wanna feel like someone found me
I’ll slide over easy now.
I’ll slide over easy now. . .
