Credits/Backstory:

Recorded by Vic Steffens in his garage. Mixed by A.J Gundell in his basement. From my cassette album, “WhyDoYouMakeMeBlue.” (1990)
The guitar player referred to in the second verse is none other than the long-standing, mighty — Johnny Memphis!
The electric guitar player on the track, kind of Knopfleresque, was known then as Pat Luciano. Now known as Solin, A wonderful musician either way.
Vic hit small things. I played acoustic guitar and yelped.

Lyrics:

Little Miss Fourteen got an eye on me
likes to make me smile, check out my crow’s feet
there’s something about me that gives her a yen
she’s got a thing for growing men.

She’s got a thing for the growin’ men
a little thing for growin’ men
sweet little thing for growin’ men.

Well the guitar player in my local rock’n’roll band
he’s no spring chicken, he’s a full-grown man
he’s payin’ the mortgage and raisin’ his boys
plays his music with a whole new joy.

He’s in a band of growin’ men
rocka band of growin’ men
rocka rocka rocka growin’ men.

Sweet mister thirty-nine
ooh he’s keepin’ fine
d-d-d-did not die
very much alive.

Here’s to long life from cradle to grave
from where we stand we can look both ways
we came and we went but we’ll come again
it’s just a matter of time with growin’ men.

We got the time we’re growin’ men
take some time we’re growin’ men
take our time we’re growin’ men
time, time growin’ men
time, time growin’ men
time, time growin’ men
time, time growin’ men.
