Lately, I Wake Up Dreaming

There’s always a party, people come and go
in a crowded house they mingle, your smile is all I see
all the people that scare me the most
that’s the people I love
gathered together forever and ever, forever,
my eyes slowly focus, and find the light...

Lately I wake up dreaming, spinning in my crazy bed
Lately I wake up dreaming
I don’t know, it’s all in my head.

They’re all dead you know, lovers friends and family
in a fiery crash they vanished, alone I floated to the ground
the scene is in perpetual replay
I rewrite, I survive
I hug and kiss goodbye, goodbye, goodbye,
my throat dries and cracks, I need water....

Lately I wake up dreaming, staring at my steering wheel
Lately I wake up dreaming
I don’t know, just might be real.

It’s not like those Hollywood dreams
it’s more like summer rain
it satisfies my need for swirling, sweet embrace
with a rocket ride and a swift release...

I’m late again, guess I always am
got an unpaid bill, a missed exam, a skipping record I can’t reach
I made a promise I can’t keep
to everyone who’s ever needed me
I run, I fly, I drive, I crawl, I stumble upstairs,
I jerk and twitch.

Lately I wake up dreaming, happens almost every day
Lately I wake up dreaming
I don’t know, it might stay that way
Lately I wake up dreaming, right between alive and dead
Lately I wake up dreaming
thank god for my crazy head.
