Dark Wind

There’s a dark wind blowin’ across all the land
it crumbles mighty mountains into arid desert sand
it mows down golden valleys, rips up ribbon highways
it howls through the night, it screams day after day.

It started a s a foul puff escaping the human soul
now it’s built to gale-force strength
it takes a heavy toll
it’s snuffed a million candles
ripped up as many dreams
it feeds on greed and fear
it spreads death and disease.

It masquerades as a fresh breeze
sweeping the old roads clean
but it’s a killer, a liar, a censor, a thief
it’s a money-making scheme
it blows down good intentions
like a mob under cover of night
it’ll steal your heart
make you snuff out your own good love light.

Well the only way I know
to keep hope alive
is lash yourself to something strong
and pray it survives
it won’t happen quickly
you might fail
all winds change
those who endure will prevail.

There’s a dark wind blowin’ all across the land.
