Stay With Me

When I stepped inside your kitchen
and sat down to your table
something in your wicked smile
told me I'd be able
to spend a little time with you.

You sliced us up a ripened pear
your cooking was delicious
you wiped the juices from my chin
your touch was so nutritious
time stopped still right there.

I didn't know, I couldn't say
but I got the feeling what happened that day
would stay with me
for a long time to come -- stay with me.

Pretty soon we were going 'round
and 'round and 'round the skating rink
you glided graceful pirouettes
then gave a kindly wink
when you helped me off the floor.

I didn't know, I couldn't say
but I got the feeling what happened that day
would stay with me
for a long time to come -- stay with me.

Sweet innocents, sweet innocents
you don't know nothing, you got no common sense
and that's so fine, that's just right.

I remember once we drove across the state of Pennsylvania
the road went on forever but you did not complain ya
read to me and poured my coffee when I drove thru heavy rain ya
turned to me with that wicked little smile
and the sun came shining thru.

I didn't know, I couldn't say
but I got the feeling what happened that day
would stay with me
for a long time to come -- stay with me.
