Credits/Backstory:

This tune has been kind of hiding in the corner ever since it was released on “Bones ‘n’ Clones” in 2001. “This amazing rocker” (as it was referred to by the IndepenDisc reviewer at the time) was crafted mainly with acoustic instruments — it helps a lot if you start with Jon Peckman on drums. Tracy Walton plays upright bass, Jim Chapdelaine plays acoustic 12-string and electric 6-string guitars, and I do my sing and strum thing on Jim’s beautiful Gibson J-45 acoustic. I tried to steal it after the session, but he checked me at the door.
I wrote a good bridge for this song — after we recorded it.

Lyrics:

i spend my time
tryin’ to free my mind
but some ancient disease put a claim on me
i’m a hopeless case
it’s a long, long, long,
long, long time.

your cheerful submission
entrenched my position
we run around, hurry, we hustle and worry
it’s a hopeless chase
it’s a long, long, long,
long, long time.

(can I please find a sign
within the grand design
of the much anticipated end of time?)

it happens every day
it takes all night
it’s the northern lights, it’s the Southern Cross,
it’s the ocean tides
it’s a long, long, long,
it’s a long, long, long,
long, long time.
