Lyrics:

Some things change and some remain, but as time goes marching by
the fundamental things in life, always will apply. . .

It happens in the cities, it happens in the towns
wherever people congregate all the world ‘round
someone takes a gun, a club, a hatchet, or a knife
and there’s one less human body with a claim to human life.

It just happens,
always has, always will,
and there’s nothing to be done.
That’s just the way it is.

It happens fairly often ‘tween a husband and a wife
sometimes the joys of marriage will conceal a longtime strife
years will pass with nothing said then one day from the blue
your loving spouse picks up the blade and puts an end to you.

It just happens,
in the pale moonlight, in the broad daylight,
and there’s nothing to be done.
That’s just the way we are.

It happens in your TV, it could happen in your car
it happens in the grocery stores, the coffee shops, and the bars.
I’ll bet that you could conjure up a nasty scheme or two
and someone might be plotting something grisly just for you.

It just happens, way out west, in the middle east,
it just happens, rich and poor, young and old,
it just happens, black and white, tan and gold,
it just happens, and there’s nothing to be done.
